Charlie: Thank you. Hello. We will be dealing with USCs and PSUs as our simulators. Now, then, as most of you know, USC's recruits doesn't have the TD-to-INT ratio that Clausen has. And, it doesn't bleed blue and gold while running a 4.43 40-time like Walker. However, our offense does have a problem with its 2nd quarter point totals. It won't put up the 21+ points we need. The latest intelligence tells us that the most it will do is one touch --um-- Excuse me, clausen. Is there something wrong?

clausen: Yes sir, the data on our high powered offense is inaccurate.

Charlie: How's that, sir?

clausen: Well, I just happened to be like a MiG 28 the way I throw touch....

The banners were hung on the stadium with care,
In hopes that St. Charlie soon would be there

The alumni were nestled all snug in their penthouse condos,
With dreams of Leahy and Holtz in their heads;

While the students at the Grotto, down by the lake,
Were just giving thanks for a long winter break,

When out on those quads there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

At his departure I heard Trooper McCarthy say;
If your sleigh flight looks fishy, you'll be the catch of the day!

Weis sprang to the roof, to his team gave a cheer

Carr Grants Dying Wish

ANN ARBOR, Mich – Lloyd Carr usually doesn’t let anyone else run his Michigan Wolverine team. However, for 10-year-old Desmond Dierdorf Jones he made an exception. The Michigan coach met last week with Desmond, who had been told by doctors weeks earlier that he might only have weeks to live.

“He was a big Michigan fan in general, especially football, and especially of the greatest quarterback in this modern era – Chad Henne,” said his mother Mrs. Jones.

Carr showed up at the Jones’ home in Ann Arbor, Michigan and talked to Desmond Dierdorf about old pranks that he used to pull on Tom Brady back when he coached him at Michigan. He told Desmond that he would intentionally make Brady run wind sprints at the end of practice, then Carr would sneak out and slit Brady’s tires with a broken beer bottle so he couldn’t get home at night. Then he would do little things like place used chewing gum in between the pages of Brady’s play book and take all his clothes out of his locker and throw them in the pool while Brady was at practice. Then as the ultimate prank, Carr said that he decided to bench Brady behind Drew Henson because he always thought it was funny to see Tom (Brady) leaving practice in tears.

“While there I gave him an opportunity to hammer me on getting blown the f**k out in last years Rose Bowl to Texas and single handedly launching Vince Young’s Heisman campaign for this upcoming year,” said Carr. “He (Desmond) got me pretty good, and it reminded me of my wife when she called me a big fat loser after the debacle and took my two dogs and kicked me out of the house.”

Before leaving, Carr asked Desmond Dierdorf a question. He asked him if there was anything that he could do for him. Desmond responded that his only request on his deathbed was for Chad Henne to start at quarterback for two straight years no matter what. Even though Carr had highly sought after QB recruit Matt Gutierrez waiting in the whim to help save a dismal Wolverine team, Carr granted the wish and said that Chad Henne will start for the next two seasons under all circumstances.

Desmond Dierdorf never got to see Chad Henne lead Michigan to a painful 7-4 season and Pre-New Years Day Bowl game. He also missed out on Chad Henne’s often outrageously bad performances against Notre Dame, or when he slipped without being touched and fell down, like a school child who fell off the monkey-bars during recess, on the last play of an excruciating Wisconsin loss.

And when Michigan faced a grueling Ohio State defense and a healthy, robust, athletically superior Gutierrez could have won the highly touted rivalry game the question was raised, “what are we going to do?” Carr responded, “we have no choice, put Chad in the game.” The end result was a loss to the Buckeyes and the crippling of a once proud program, but it’s a message that reached all the way back to a family in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Thank you for your flow chart of November 16. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your lame ass flow chart, or any of the arguments contained therein.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving the usual large number of ridiculous arguments and general pundit speak, of our jealous critics. With such a varied and promising field of candidates it is impossible for me to accept all absurd arguments.

That fact that your University has absolutely no outstanding qualifications and previous experience in original thought, I find that your flow chart does not meet even the lowest standard of human thought. Therefore, I will assume that this was really just the product of an experiment conducted in your social sciences department on underdeveloped apes. I look forward to reading the report in Nature.

Best of luck in living in the shadows of a far superior University, mine.

During his acceptance speech of the Heisman, Quinn just couldn’t believe what he was feeling. "Oh man, this is amazing," Quinn said, a row of former winners lining the stage behind him. "It's truly an honor to be elected to this fraternity. I've been in college for three years and it's the first time I've been invited into a fraternity. In fact we don’t even frats at ND, actually I usually just sit in my dorm playing Halo all day. Well no, sometimes we like to steal ice out of the ice machine and throw it on peoples’ doors. Oh, or my favorite, we use the emulator online and prank call people using Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice, man I love that." In fact, that is probablly what Quinn was thinking about when they called his name. "I was in shock because Vince Young and Matt are such great... great…. Well they aren't actually all that good. I mean Matt fell apart again us, and all but lost the game till he screwed up and saved USC ass by fumbling the ball. And Vince is barely a QB, I mean he hardly throws, so I guess no I wasn’t in shock at all, I mean they really weren’t competition for me." Quinn said.

PAC-10: The Merry-Go-Round of Inferiority

Although this post lacks the parody-like nature that you are accustomed to, this falls into the "plenty of irish love" category, and I feel that it is necessary to get a few words out there...

Those of you that know a Pac-10 fan, you know that they are "beautiful individual" (Lou Holtz reference to Mark May during the ND football banquet) and you also know that they are one of those people who has been having the wool pulled over their eyes by the Pac-10 by being made to think that they are a reputable conference. However, last time I checked, having only one football team that can win in your conference didn't exactly turn you into a "power division." Just for fun... lets look at a few things...

Pac 10 record against top 25 teams: 4 - 25.... granted, Ty did his part in racking up those losses, but are you kidding me - TWENTY FIVE LOSSES. And i have news for you, USC has three of those wins; but perhaps it takes away a little when we see that 3 of those 4 wins have been against pac-10 teams that shouldn't be in the top 25 anyway (USC over ranked Oregon, USC over ranked UCLA, and Arizona over ranked UCLA)

In fact, to make it simple, here is AN ALL INCLUSIVE LIST of non-Pac-10 Top 25 Teams that the Pac-10 was able to beat this year:
1) USC over Notre Dame...

that is all

So what you are telling me, is that you have a power conference because one of the best teams of alleged college lore was able to get flat out, out played and win a football game by LUCK in the last :07 seconds? - There i said it!

See, the problem with the pac-10 is that everybody sucks, save for one team. However, don't get me wrong, they all suck equally though. There is no logical connection within the conference... eg. UCLA beats Cal, Cal beats Zona, then Zona beats UCLA... now this has been going on all year long but none of "experts" seem to realize it.... now in evaluating how good a team is you can pretty much do it on two levels. One you can sit down and watch every gut-wrenching, boring pac-10 game that is on TV because you live on the west coast and that is the only option you have and you can actually see that they are not good teams just in the way that they flat out objectively play... or you can do what I call the "ESPN Method" and just look at what a couple numbers say on the paper you are reading... eg. "Oregon has one loss, Notre Dame has 2, Oregon should go to the BCS." - Tony Cornheiser (PTI)... while we're at it, lets send TCU (only one loss) to the BCS bowl Tony... the fact of the matter is, is if you want to evaluate a team using the "ESPN Method" you need to take a look at the numbers in the context in which they lie... now everybody knows that when you conduct an experiment, it is always proper to have a "control" experiment and a "variable" experiment. The variable is the one that you are testing, but it doesn't mean anything unless you have a proper control to compare it to. That means, that if you are going to look strictly at the numbers and use the "ESPN Method" you should also make sure that there is a proper variable in your experiment. See the problem with the Pac-10 is that it isn't using any "variable" in the experiment. It only has a control - and that is the pac-10 playing each other and nobody else. So from this experiment, we know that the pac-10 can beat up on each other pretty good; however, we can't measure the strength of their football programs if they choose only to play this "round-robin" like season against one another only. We need to see a variable, such as scheduling a non-conference game maybe against Florida, Miami, at least even or Pittsburgh please.

Instead here are the non-conference teams that they selected:

Arizona: Utah, North Arizona, Purdue (and they got schlacked)

Oregon: Houston, Montana, Fresno (who are these teams)

UCLA: San Diego State, Rice, Oklahoma

Cal: dear Lord Sacramento State, Illinois, New Mexico St.

Arizona State: Temple, LSU (who they lost to), Northwestern

Stanford: Navy, UC Davis (D 1-AA team they lost to), ND

Oregon St: PORTLAND ST!!!, Boise St, Louisville (thank you - btw State, you got dominated in this one)

Washington St: IDAHO, Nevada, GRAM ST (do they even have football teams?)

Washington: Air Force, IDAHO, ND

And then

USC: Hawaii, Arkansas, ND, Fresno

Okay, so what we have here is Pac-10 teams that schedule very, very weak non-conference games and the semi-tough ones that they do schedule (ND, LSU, Lousiville) they get a well deserved beating handed to them.

Now, one of those beautiful Pac-10 individuals, perhaps a lowly Ducks fan before packing his bags for San Diego for his lovely pre-New Years Holiday Bowl will likely say… “oh yea ND, well we killed Stanford, and you only barely beat them.”…. wow… isn’t that so cute. I think I remember having an argument like that before when I was on the swing set during recess in 1^st grade. Now in addressing just one of these lovely Pac-10 arguments, it is important to note that this method of arguing is circular and leads to no affirmative conclusions (eg. ND barely got by Stanford who Oregon whalloped... yet they fail to take into consideration that Oregon barely beat Arizona (by 3 points) who had lost to Stanford earlier in the year. So first off, anyone who tries to argue through disjunctive syllogisms (look it up Oregon fans) in sports would probably be best apt to do it back on the playground at Windom Elementary (I’ll give you directions if you need them). If history has taught us 2 things they are as follows:

1) the Holocaust was a bad thing, and
2) Using logically premised syllogisms to express the quality of a sports
team simply DO NOT work.... especially when the Pac-10 is concerned (See above analysis).

So in conclusion, the Pac-10 sucks (except for USC) and their records are grossly inflated because they are not tested outside their already terrible conference, so if you want to play the "ESPN Method", you must look at the context of the numbers, because numbers will lie to you... right TCU?

Book I, Chapter 1
The Period

It was the beginning of the best of times, it was the beginning of the worst of times, it was the age of Irish wisdom, it was the age of Gator foolishness, it was start of an epoch of belief in Irish Glory, it was the epoch of an incredulous return to useless swampland, it was the season of Weis, it was the season of Meyer, it was the spring of discredit and quiet study for Weis, it was the spring of over hyped glory for Meyer, the Irish had everything before them, the Gators had nothing before them, as expected all the Irish were going directly to a BCS bowl, however, the Gators were all going directly back to their mud huts in the swamp — in short, the period was so far like past periods, that some of the noisiest ESPN ‘authorities’ insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only, because it was time for the Irish to be back on top.

There were a coach, who some called a king, with 5 large jewels on his hand and a quarterback, who some called a Heisman candidate, with huge arms; running the show in South Bend; there was a bum, who some called an over hyped lucky *** with a large jaw, that many of his subjects wanted to punch and a team that played like queens without any spirit or discipline, at the throne in the swampland. In both countries it was clearer than crystal to the lords of the Universe had restored the loaves of victory and fishes of celebration back t the Irish, yes, things in general were settled for ever, the Irish will always be dominant.

Brady Quinn: Oh... That's great. I'm very... happy.

Coach Weis: That's what I'm gonna do for you. Now this is what you're gonna do for me. You listening?

Four score and seven years ago our fathers, Gipp and Rockne, brought forth on this University, a first national championship, conceived in Greatness, and dedicated to the proposition that no other college teams were created as equals.
Now we are engaged in a great war, testing whether that University, the only University so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of war pitted against inaccurate ESPN pundits and unintelligible race-wheeling, bed-wetting derelicts. During this war, we have come to dedicate a piece of that battlefield, as a final shameful resting place for those who came and failed in attempt to thwart the destiny of that University. This is altogether fitting and proper.

But, in truth, those who have truly dedicated – those who have truly consecrated – and given their lives on this hallowed ground are the brave Irish -- those of Montana, Lattner, Lujack, and Quinn -- those who have established that University of unfathomable power. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, however it will never forget what that University did here. It is for us, the Irish faithful, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who so valiantly fought here have thus far so nobly advanced -- that from these honored, we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve to return that University to the Greatness that it was conceived in and -- that this great University, under God and Weis, shall have a new birth of Glory -- and that the regal new government of the Irish, by the Irish, for the Irish, shall not perish from the college rankings, but reign true for all eternity.

Genesis 1: The Beginning of Weis

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Now the earth was formless and empty, having only mediocre football teams, such as Army and the Wolverines, while the magnificent Spirit of Notre Dame was hovering over the waters.

And God said, "Let there be a real University," and then there was Notre Dame. God saw that Notre Dame was good, and He separated Notre Dame from the darkness of short-winded façade-like winning streak universities. God called Notre Dame the "Irish," and the darkness he called ridiculous versions of over-sized bubble head mascots, like Badgers, Orangemen, and Trojans. And there was a first national championship for the Irish, and there was a second – these were the Rockne days …… then came the first game of Weis…..

And God said, "Let there be an expanse between these two former NFL coaches to separate an offense mastermind from a tag-a-long coach that only could win with Ricky Williams." So the Irish made many advances and separated the pathetic panthers from the ranks of the AP top 25. And it was so. God called the advances "Nasty" And there was another night celebrating at underage bars, and there was Sunday morning chilling in Fitz – then came the second game.

And God said, "Let all the Irish under the sky be gathered to one place, and let us all gather at the Big House so we can all see just how strong my Irish are." And it was so. God called Charlie Weis’ new offense the "Playstation Offense" And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, "I never liked the third game, so let’s not talk about the third game. See how I have treated the Spartans; they have a horrible stadium, and no fan base, but now I am done with them.

And then God said, "Let there be lights on the beautiful Dome and Basilica to show all that visit how Notre Dame is different from other places, and let them serve as signs to mark winning seasons and days and years, and let those light on the Dome and Basilica give light on the earth." And it was so. God made these two great buildings —the Dome to govern the day and the Basilica to govern the night. He also made the stars, you know like, Quinn, Fasano, Samardzija, and Walker. Weis set them in his “Playstation Offense” and gave them the training necessary to govern the likes of Michigan, Tennessee, and other unworthy football “programs.” And God saw that it was good. And there was a great domination of Washington—the fourth game.

And God said, "Let the Irish produce a break-out game, to show the World how strong they are, they will, run, pass defend and catch, each according to its kind." And it was so. Purddont was soundly defeated. God made the Irish Offense according to wild tigers, the Defense according to angry hyenas, and all the fans that cheer them along according to His angles. And God saw that it was good, for he never liked Pudue.

Then God said, "Let us make Weis in our image, in our likeness, and let Weis rule over the entire league, let him rule them like God does the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, yes Weis will rule the coach like the unintelligent fish mongers that they are."

So God created Weis in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and dominate he created Weis.

God blessed the Irish and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number your victories and National Championships; fill the earth with Heisman candidates. Rule over the Trojans of the SC and the Wolverines of the Michigan and over every college football team that moves into the NCAA."

Then God said, "I will give you a powerful SC opponent to have the whole world how strong you are. They will be yours for food. You will outplay them. And to all the fans of the earth and all the ESPN pundits of on air and all the Coaches that move on the ground, everything that has the breath of life in it — I will give them a great game to show that you are the best team in the country." And it was so.

God saw all that he had given the Irish, and it was very good. But he must also give them humility, so he let them lose on the last play of the game. And there was sorrow, and there was mourning, but the Irish became stronger — the sixth game.

Thus the Irish and Weis were completed in all their vast glory.

By the seventh game God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh game he rested from all his work And God let the Irish feast on the seventh game and made it a holy game, Mormon’s vs. Catholic’s, and we all know how that was going to turn out.

Back home when I tell people that Notre Dame is not racist, they think, well, that, that figures. But in the media it's a big, a big mystery. So I guess we've changed some. Sometimes I wonder if the media has changed us so much that the alums are ever gonna recognize us whenever it is they get back here -- and how I'll ever be able to tell them about days like today. BCS Can't Handle the Truth

At the time of this meeting you gave the Harris poll representatives an order, is that right?

I told the Harris poll representatives that Notre Dame’s ranking was not to be touched. And I ordered the computer poll operators to place ND in the top ten.
            SKYLAR
Why?

I felt that Notre Dame’s ranking might be in danger once word got out that shittier teams like Boston College who don’t play anybody had won

Upon hearing the news that Notre Dame was finally Going to be in the BCS top ten, the fans were so excited, that do you know how many articles were written about this new found BCS ranking? Zero. Nobody. Not one call from the administration to alumni asking them for money after telling them that they were going to be in the top ten. Not one call to the board of trustees saying can you give me some more cash upfront to put the finishing touches on the brand new state of the art ‘gug’. Notre Dame was waiting quietly with no celebration prepared on Monday for what you said in 6 hours was going to be an ND re-emergence into the BCS showcase… Can you explain that? The fact is there was no top ten order. Notre Dame was going to be dropped out of the top ten for some undeserving bullshit teams like Alabama who needs last second field goals to win against shitty SEC teams on the road, isn’t that right?

Object. Your Honor, it's obvious that SKYLAR'S intention this morning is to smear a high ranking BCS system in the desperate hope that the mere appearance of impropriety will win him points with the national public.

Please tell me you've got something more, Sklyar. Please tell me there's an ace up your sleeve. There is a university that is fending for its ranking. In a dark tunnel from Touchdown Jesus to the House that Rock built
Warm smells of oranges rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw shimmering light.
My head looked up and I saw the #1 on Flanner hall.
Would we ever stop winning?

There she stood on top of the Dome;
I heard the Basilica bells.
And I was thinking to myself :
"This could be Heaven or this could be Notre Dame"
Then Weis lit up a top 10 defense, and he showed me the way.
There were voices rocking the stadium

I thought I heard them say:

Such a football place, such a Heisman place, always in the BCS race.

Any time of year, you can find National Championships here.

His mind is genius-twisted, he's got the “Playstation Offense”.
He’s got a lot of tough, slick players that he calls NFL candidates.
How they dance in the stadium, sweet fall victories,
Michigan dances to remember, we dance to go to the Dance.

So I called up the Captain:
"Please bring me number 14"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen eighty eight."
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake up the echo’s in the middle of the night

Charlie Weis: Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you are a blue chip. What this is, you can't explain. But you feel it. You've felt it your entire life. That there's something amazing about the level of your talent. You don't know what it is, but it's there...like a blitizing linebacker, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to my program. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Blue Chip: The National Championship?

CW: Do you want to know....what…it…is?

[Blue Chip nods]

CW: The National Championship is everywhere. It's all around us, even in this very stadium. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on NBC and see us on national TV. You can feel it when you go to practice, when you hit the gym, when you are kicking ass on the field.

The National Championship is the world that has been pulled over your eyes, to blind you from the truth.

Blue Chip: What truth?

CW: That you are nasty, Blue Chip. Like everyone else, you were born into football, born into a game that you cannot fully comprehend or taste or touch. A prison...for your talent....Unfortunately, no one can be…told…what the National Championship is...you have to experience it for yourself.

[CW opens a container which holds two pills : a red one, and a blue and gold one. He puts one in each hand, and holds them out to the Blue Chip.]

CW: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the red pill, you go to somewhere like USC and the story ends. You wake up and believe...whatever you want to believe…that you really had a shot at the National Championship but you chose a program that depended almost entirely on three players for the past three years. The 21st century has seen the loss of many great heroes. Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Joe Paterno (Edit: Apparently Paterno is still alive and contrary to popular opinion is not part of another Weekend at Bernie's sequel). However, often overlooked among these greats is the greatest entrepreneur of our day. Without this man the world would never have known the sweet taste of a triple stack, or the permeating joy that comes from ordering from the 99¢ menu. Yes, of course I am talking about square hamburger pioneer, frostee inventor, and all around American Hero, Dave Thomas. We all know that Dave Thomas ranks with Lincoln and Washington in the annals of historic americans and that he is about to be canonized by Pope Benedict for the numerous miracles he has facilitated. But what does this have to do with Notre Dame football? Everything!
It is a little known fact that St. Dave was a huge Notre Dame fan. Yes, it is true that Wendy's was named after his daughter. But just why did he decide to name her Wendy? The answer is staring you in the face . . . weNDys. In fact, First and Gold has obtained a draft of Dave's original Wendy's logo.

This design was rejected ultimately reject. Finding himself in the middle of Buckeye country St. Dave, possessor of infinite business sense, decided to use the traditional logo we know and love today. However, this is incontrovertible evidence (Michigan fans should know all about this) that history's greatest restauranteur loved the Irish. This, in and of itself, is not earth shattering. Millions of people the world over love the Irish. But consider this: Since Dave's death on Jan. 6, 2002 the Irish have lost three straight times at the hands of the hated trojans. Why would St. Dave, a known Irish lover and miracle worker, let such a thing happen? Because Dave hates Tyrone Willingham. Not because Tyrone is black (St. Dave loves all of God's creation equally) but because anybody who has ever looked at Tyrone knows that his emaciated frame has never tasted heaven on a bun. That is why it was so necessary to bring in a new sheriff. But, not just any sheriff but Charlie Weis. Why was Charlie chosen? His football acumen? His four super bowl rings? No. Charlie was hired because anybody who has ever looked at the man knows that he enjoys a Big Bacon classic or twenty. Yes, Dave is smiling up there knowing that the Irish are in good hands. In fact, the breakout season of our Quarterback Brady Quinn is directly attributable to Dave Thomas. It is no small coincidence that Brady's home town of Dublin, OH is the HEADQUARTERS OF WENDY'S. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know - that Oklahoma's complete interior catacylsmic meltdown, while tragic, probably catapulted shitty undeserving teams such as Michigan into the top 25; and Matt Leinart's existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, allows him to get high school girls from the hit TV show Laguna Beach naked in his dorm room bed. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about outside USA today poll parties, you want Notre Dame ranked in the top 10 -- you need them in the top 10.
